How Do Clear Aligners Work?

Every two weeks or so, you will throw away the old aligners, and use a newer, straighter set that will help your teeth gradually move into straighter positions. 

Clear Aligners vs. Braces

While most orthodontic problems can be treated with braces, as they are the tried and true form of improving smiles, they do not have the same kind of benefits as clear aligners. For instance, braces are obviously more visible, as you can see the metal wires, brackets, and rubber bands. In addition, braces remain affixed to the teeth, while clear aligners are removable. This means that traditional braces have many food restrictions, while clear aligners do not. Braces are also known as being less comfortable than clear aligners, as there are many different elements to traditional braces. On the other hand, clear aligners do not have the many elements like wires, brackets, and rubber bands. With braces, they require more office visits because of maintenance, like adjusting and tightening wires and switching out rubber bands. But with clear aligners, there is much less maintenance, as aligners do not have those elements. Lastly, it is easier to maintain oral hygiene with clear aligners, as you are able to remove them before flossing and brushing. With braces, because they are affixed to the teeth, you have to be sure to carefully and thoroughly brush and floss.
